Ogun Assembly Elects Balogun Akeem As New Deputy Speaker

Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly have elected Balogun Akeem, a member representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency as the new deputy speaker unopposed.

Balogun’s emergence followed the removal of the former deputy speaker, Oludare Kadiri, who represents Ijebu-North II State Constituency for gross misconduct.

Balogun became the new Deputy Speaker sequel to his nomination by a member representing Remo North State Constituency, Solomon Osho, seconded by his Ijebu-North East counterpart, Abayomi Fasuwa, and was unanimously supported by other lawmakers at a plenary.

Prior to the nomination exercise, the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Deji Adeyemo had presented a report on the vacancy in the office of the Deputy Speaker.

Balogun thereafter took the oaths of office and that of allegiance respectively which were administered on him by the Clerk.

AllNews had reported that the State Assembly last week Thursday, during the plenary impeached Kadiri as the Deputy Speaker of the House.

According to the clerk, the exercise has created a vacuum in the Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House, hence, the notice of the vacancy is hereby communicated to the Plenary for necessary action as contained in the extant provision of the Standing Order of the House.
