Ogun: Gov Abiodun slashes price of rice by 50% amid economic

Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has decided to start offering citizens a 50% discount on rice as a way to ease the burden of the nation's economic difficulties.

Allnews. ng gathered that Abiodun revealed this during the Special Iftar (breaking of fast) held at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta for the state's League of Imams and Alfas.

Governor Abiodun said that the item would be sold to all state employees first and that the price for state citizens would also be halved.

Abiodun continued, saying that his administration wants to give back the buying power that inflation has taken away from public employees.

He said: “We have decided to commence the sale of rice. We will be selling it at the rate of 50% of the price.

“We are going to commence with our civil servants. All our public servants across the board will buy rice at half the price.

"What is the reason behind selling to them? What we are trying to do is put them in the position they were before the inflation. The purchasing power that they seem to have lost because of inflation, we are putting them back in that position.”
