Ogun: NEMA delivers relief materials to victims of Lafenwa m

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has delivered relief materials to victims of the recent fire disaster at Lafenwa market in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The delivery of the Federal Government's support led by the NEMA Southwest Zonal office was in collaboration with the Ogun State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA.

The agency in a statement on Wednesday said the support was aimed at easing the impact of the fire disaster on the victims.

According to the statement, the South West Zonal Director, Stephen Adewale while flagging off the distribution of the items condoled the affected persons over the unfortunate incident.

He equally extended the sympathies of the NEMA's Director-General, Umar Zubaida to the victims and acknowledged that "the provided items, although substantial, could not fully replace what the victims had lost."

The event which was attended by key stakeholders in the state saw the distribution of a variety of food and non-food items, "with an emphasis on the importance of using these resources effectively."

The statement added that the Ogun State Government, represented by Lateef Benson, the Permanent Secretary for Special Duty and Inter-Governmental Affairs distributed cash to compliment the Federal Government's gesture to cushion the effect of the disaster on the victims.

The beneficiaries also expressed their appreciation to the Federal and State Governments for their support during the difficult time.
