Ogun SSG Stranded As Pensioners Lock Entrance

Angry pensioners locked the entrance of the Ogun State Secretariat over N68 billion outstanding gratuity on Wednesday.

The blockade caused the Secretary to the state government stranded in his office.

The blockade was carried out by the Local Government Pensioners Association in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The secretary to the state government SSG Tokunbo Talabi and other civil servants remained stranded for hours.

The protesters held placards protesting with inscription like 'gratuities are sales to pensioners,' 'Governor Dapo Abiodun, honour your father and treat pensioners well,' and many others.

The state chairman of the LOGPAN, Sikiru Ayilara complained bitterly about the I'll treatment of pensioners by the Abiodun adminstration.

While speaking to journalists, Ayilara said some pensioners earn as low as N3,000 monthly.

He added that while the association had written 13 letters to governor Abiodun, "the governor has remained recalcitrant and unyielding to their demands."

Responding to the protesters, the SSG begged the Pensioners to be patient as government is doing well to reduce their hardships.

The SSG said, "the government is currently experiencing hard times", while it is working on their demands.
