Ogun: Woman who faked kidnap after suffering miscarriage found

Ogun: Woman who faked kidnap after suffering miscarriage fou

Rahemat Lateef, a pregnant lady who was reported missing and set to deliver while on her way to the State General Hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, has been found.

Rahemat, who was thought to have been kidnapped, was never taken; instead, she escaped to Kwara State to flee her husband's wrath following a miscarriage.

According to the Daily Post, Rahemat was frustrated by frequent miscarriages and had made up the kidnapping scenario.

Her husband, Ogunbunmi Lateef, claimed to get a WhatsApp message informing him of his wife's kidnapping by unknown individuals.

On Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Omolola Odutola, offered an update on the matter, stating that Rahemat had been found in Kwara State with her father.

She said that the command's anti-kidnapping unit had begun tracking her until she reappeared.

Odutola said, “Rahemat Lateef, who was reported abducted by her husband, was never kidnapped. Instead, she planned her journey to Kwara State to escape her husband’s wrath, following repeated miscarriages.

“She fabricated the story herself, travelled to Kwara State, and was far from being kidnapped. After experiencing a miscarriage and becoming frustrated due to its repeated occurrence, she feared her husband’s reaction and orchestrated the narrative. The Anti-Kidnapping Team had begun tracking her until she reappeared.

“She is now under medical attention and is safe,” she added.

Allnews.ng had previously reported that the Police in Ogun State revealed that investigations are underway over the disappearance of a pregnant woman.

The pregnant woman identified as Mrs Ogunbunmi was abducted on her way to the state hospital in Ijaiye in the Abeokuta area of the state.

Ogunbunmi, who was due for delivery was said to have left her home in Oke Lantoro to the hospital for a medical checkup when some unidentified men abducted her.

It was gathered that the abductors had sent Ogunbumni’s husband, Lateed, a message to his WhatsApp line to confirm the kidnap.

However, it has not been reported if the abductors made any demands for Ogunbunmi’s release.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Friday stating that the police were still investigating the incident.
