Okada Ban: 2,000 Motorcycles Crushed By Lagos Government

The Lagos State Government has started the process of crushing about 2,000 motorcycles impounded in line with the ban on Okada operations in the state.

The ban took effect on June 1, 2022, and six Local Government Areas (LGAs) and nine Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) were affected.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, reiterated the government’s commitment to the safety and security of lives and property.

While commending Lagosians for the level of compliance observed in the six LGAs, the Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, disclosed that 21 persons had been charged to court for flouting the ban, with over 2,000 motorcycles confiscated.

He disclosed that provision had been made for motorcycle riders affected by the ban who are interested in operating in the first and last mile buses to be integrated into the scheme.

Speaking further, Omotoso added that affected riders might consider enrolling at any of the 18 vocational centres across the state or access the Lagos State Employment Trust Funds to explore other fields of work.
