Okey Wali: NBA Speaks Following Abduction Of Former President

Okey Wali: NBA Speaks Following Abduction Of Former Presiden

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has reacted after its former President Okey Wali was abducted by gunmen.

Wali was reportedly kidnapped on Monday on the East–West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Dressed in military uniform, the gunmen ambushed Wali's convoy, murdered two aides, and shot three police officers.

Speaking via a statement on Tuesday, NBA President Yakubu Maikyau appealed to the kidnappers not to harm their captive.

According to him, Wali, who is the 26th president of the association, has contributed to the profession and entrenchment of the rule of law.

“I, therefore, plead with the abductors not to harm Wali and make a passionate appeal for his release to his family.

“The NBA assures his family of our full support in this trying period, even as we join in praying for his safe return”. Maikyau stated.

He further said that the development is a reminder of Nigeria's weak security system and urged the government to protect its citizens.

The NBA President called on the police to work towards ensuring that Wali regains his freedom.
