Oluwo of Iwo, Oba AbdulRosheed Adewale Akanbi
Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has called on President Muhammed Buhari to enforce the death penalty for drug dealers, ritualists and terrorists.
Oba Akanbi in a statement by Alli Ibraheem, his Chief Press Secretary said its enforcement will aid in decimating the many security challenges threatening the country.
Oluwo who suggested that capital punishment be enforced on perpetrators of drug dealing and terrorism held that if the security challenges besetting the country was not addressed, Nigeria might explode.
The foremost traditional ruler stated that such enforcement will serve as a deterrent and discourage others who intend to jump on the bandwagon.
Maintaining that false courage from taking hard drugs has pushed terrorists to the point of no mercy, Oba Akanbi advised the Federal Government to revisit the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) inaugurated in 1984 and also to take strict action against drug peddlers.
While noting that WAI enforcement had prompted a corrupt-free society devoid of security threat, the monarch urged President Buhari to key into reintroducing capital punishment for terrorists, bandits and drug dealers to address the incessant and unnecessary killing of innocent Nigerians.
In his words, "The use of hard drugs by bandits has made them merciless. Hard drug peddling should be condemnable with capital punishment. Nigeria is becoming an import hub for hard drugs because the government has failed to sustain the punishment of executing drug dealers as was done in 1984 by Buhari - Idiagbon regime."
