Olympic Lyonnais edge Strasbourg in Coup de France

Olympic Lyonnais welcomed modest Ligue 1 side Strasbourg in the Coup de France clash on Tuesday night as both teams faced off in an entertaining encounter.

Olympic Lyonnais were the favourites coming into this game but they were expected to prove their worth on the pitch.

It was a hard one for them as Strasbourg aimed to give them a run for their money. The tough nature of the match ensured that the first half finished in a stalemate.

The second half produced a series of bookings with both teams pressing for the elusive goal.

Lyon’s Duje Caleta-Car was booked in the 68th minute while Strasbourg trio of Junior Mwanga, Ibrahim Sissoko and Alaa Bellaarouch was shown a yellow in the 64th, 88th, 90+1 minute of the contest.

It ended goalless at the regulation time. After extra time it was a penalty kick to separate both sides.

With the penalty shootout at 4-3, Lucas Perrin missed his kick to hand Lyon the win. If he had scored the Penalties would have continued at 4-4.

With the win, Olympic Lyon advanced to the next stage of the Coup de France competition.
