Omehia Ordered By Rivers Assembly To Refund N600 Million Ben

The Rivers State House of Assembly has instructed Celestine Omehia to refund about N600 million benefits he received from the State as a former governor after he was de-recognised as governor of the state.

The motion was passed during a sitting on Thursday after which Omehia was asked to refund all monetary entitlement he received as a governor as benefits amounting to N600 million within seven days.

All 21 members voted for his de-recognition and he is to also return about N97 million he had so far received as pension to the treasury of the state.

Omehia was ousted from office by the Supreme Court in 2007, six months after he was announced as the winner of the state governorship election.

The court subsequently ordered that Rotimi Amaechi be sworn in as Governor.

Omehia was given recognition as governor when Governor Nyesom Wike emerged as the state ruler in 2015.
