Ondo: APC guber aspirant alleges irregularities in primary e

Olugbenga Edema, an All Progressive Congress (APC)'s governorship aspirant in Ondo State, has criticized the ongoing primary election conducted by the committee led by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo.

Speaking to reporters in Akure, the state capital, Edema alleged irregularities despite assurances of timely distribution of election materials.

He stated, “During yesterday's stakeholders meeting, the committee's secretary from Abuja, Ovie Omo-Agege, assured us that voting materials, including the membership register and result sheets, would be distributed to designated electoral officers. He also outlined the schedule, with accreditation starting at 10 a.m., voting at 1 p.m., and result announcement thereafter.

“However, as of now, the materials have not arrived despite our wait since 6 a.m. At around 9:30 a.m., the committee chairman, Kogi State Governor, claimed materials had been distributed. But where and at what time? Unfortunately, the returning and electoral officers for my ward (Mahin ward 2, Ilaje local government) are here without materials.”

Edema alleged that the results of the primary have been announced, calling on the party’s leadership to ensure a free and fair process.

“Then he had the effrontery to tell us that materials have been distributed and results have been announced at 10 a.m., when accreditation should start. We asked him questions, and he left us.

“We are not people being spoonfed by some godfathers; we have talked to our people, and they believe in us. All we’re asking is for them to vote, and their vote should count. We are asking the leadership of the party to look into this, and if they are not ready, they should postpone it, so the right thing can be done,” he said.
