Ortom Commends CAN For Uniting Christians In Benue

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has expressed happiness with the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), for uniting the church in the state.

He said it is important that the church work together as one, because as he puts it, "We all complement one another for the good of the gospel of Christ."

The Governor spoke on Monday, while performing the foundation laying ceremony of the secretariat of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, located behind Bolek Filling Station, Kilometer 2, Gboko Road, Makurdi.

He said he was particularly happy that the leadership of CAN through its efforts, has resolved the disagreement that had existed among various denominations in the state.

This position, he recalled, hampered the growth of the church, noting that with unity it would continue to grow.

Ortom also expressed appreciation to the church for the support it has given his family and administration through prayers, admonishment, encouragement and speaking for him at all times.

While encouraging Christians in the state to donate towards the building of the secretariat, the Governor promised on behalf of his family and state government to support CAN to enable them to build a state secretariat in Makurdi.

He stated that giving for God's works such as the secretariat building attracts blessing from God and called on Christians across all church denominations to contribute to the completion of the project to get their blessing.

Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN in Benue State, Reverend Akpen Leva in a  speech stated that both the leadership of the association and the believers were happy that their desire to have a secretariat was being materialized.

Reverend Leva expresses appreciation to Governor Ortom for not only the role he played in the association securing the land but for assuring them of his financial contribution until the project was completed.

The CAN Chairman maintained that even though the Governor was contributing heavily to the project, there was a need for other members of the Christian community, especially those that were financially buoyant to lend a helping hand.

Earlier, the Vice Chairman of CAN, Bishop Mike Angou who in a short message preached on the "Potency of the hand of God" admonished Christians to enter into covenant with God to enjoy divine favour, mercy and protection.
