Oscars 2021: Genevieve, Akin Omotosho Join The Academy’s N

Genevieve Nnaji and Akin Omotoso have been listed among the new 819 invitees of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

A statement released by David Rubin, The Academy’s president on Tuesday, said the new invitees have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.

He also said that the addition of new members was to ensure proper involvement of women in the Academy.

"The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 819 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.

"The 2020 class is 45% women, 36% underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 49% international from 68 countries. There are 75 Oscar® nominees, including 15 winners, and five recipients of Scientific and Technical Awards. Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy’s membership in 2020", the statement reads.

“The Academy is delighted to welcome these distinguished fellow travelers in the motion picture arts and sciences. We have always embraced extraordinary talent that reflects the rich variety of our global film community, and never more so than now,” David Rubin, The Academy president, said in the statement.

Dawn Hudso, The Academy CEO, said the next agenda is Aperture 2025 to advance inclusion and representation in membership and the film community.

“We look forward to continuing to foster an Academy that reflects the world around us in our membership, our programs, our new Museum, and in our awards,” he said.

Recall that in 2018, screen diva Omotola-Jalade Ekeinde and Femi Odugbemi were also invited as members of the Oscars voting body in 2018.
