Osinbajo To Lay Foundation Of First Solar Production Plant

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, will lay the foundation of the first solar cell production plant in Nigeria on Friday.

The plant, as reported, will become one of the largest solar cell production plants in Africa when it begins full operation.

The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna, who spoke on the importance of the plant in a statement on Thursday said NASENI got the directive to go into full production from President Muhammadu Buhari.

This, according to him, is to deploy solar panels locally to fill the gaps in the electricity supply in Nigeria.

Haruna said: “With the establishment of the plant, Nigeria will now have a complete solar energy production plant. With an already existing NASENI 7.5-megawatts Solar Panel Production Plant in Karshi, Abuja, Nigeria will be producing 100% local content solar panels that will be an alternative source of power generation to ease the burden on the national grid.”

The NASENI boss further disclosed that Osinbajo will be the special guest of honour at the foundation-laying ceremony.

This plant being in Gora means Nigeria will go into full production of completely local content in the manufacturing of solar panels and other electronic materials.
