Osun 2022: Osun APC Presents Oyetola With Gubernatorial Nomination Form

Osun 2022: Osun APC Presents Oyetola With Gubernatorial Nomi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has formally presented Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola with a gubernatorial nomination form.

The Chairman-elect of the APC in the state, Gboyega Famodun, made the presentation in Osogbo on Tuesday.

Recall that earlier in January 2022, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had in an unscheduled visit to the meeting of the Osun State Traditional Rulers Council made known his intention to seek a second term by contesting in the Saturday, July 16, 2022, gubernatorial election.

Oyetola's ambition has however come under severe attack from 'The Osun Progressives', a group within the state chapter of the APC, whose members have consistently stated that they will not support his ambition.

They have also disclosed that they are going to support a candidate from the Osun West Senatorial District who had never enjoyed the office in recent years.

The division within the Osun APC has seen the party divided into two factions; The Osun Progressives (TOP) which enjoys the support of Rauf Aregbesola, the former governor and current Minister of Interior and IleriOluwa, which enjoys the support of the state governor.

Also, the quarrel led the party to organise parallel congresses across the wards, local governments and state.

In a recent visit by the Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Reconciliation Committee Chairman of the party, TOP demanded that for genuine reconciliation in the state, the committee should recognise the congresses organised by them and also that the state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola should resign his membership of the APC caretaker national committee.

The IleriOluwa faction nevertheless asked the Adamu led National Reconciliation Committee to ignore the demands of TOP.

In a related development, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has also publicly declared his support for the TOP faction of the party which is contrary to the stance of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola who has consistently maintained that he and Aregbesola are brothers and he is sure the former governor will not work against his second term ambition and interest.
