Osun 2022: PDP, APC In Allegation Row Over Election Rigging

Osun 2022: PDP, APC In Allegation Row Over Election Rigging

The Governorship Campaign Council of Osun Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed that it has uncovered a fresh plot by the Governor Adegboyega Oyetola-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to rig the forthcoming gubernatorial election in state.

This is at it also claimed that the Osun governor Adegboyega Oyetola was coercing civil servants across the state to surrender their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) under the cover of a questionable screening.

This revelation was contained in a statement signed by Olawale Rasheed for the Senator Ademola Adeleke Campaign Organisation and obtained on Friday in Osogbo.

The council which disclosed that it was alerted through a reliable sources that the scheme will avail Governor Oyetola access to the voting details of workers added that the data will be used to threaten them to vote him as a condition to retain their jobs.

The statement noted that the governor was resorting to coercion because he is aware that that state's workers were resolved to reject him.

“Governor Oyetola is aware of the resolve of Osun workers to reject his re-election bid and he is now resorting to coercion to change their voting choice.

“We must warn that this is undemocratic and it is an abuse of privilege and office.

"Our campaign council will not watch and fold its arms while diligent workers are forced into a rigging plot by the APC.

"Osun civil servants, like every other eligible voters, have rights to democratic choice and we find it dictatorial that Governor Oyetola wants to use their jobs to influence their voting rights.

“If Governor Oyetola has done well as he will want us to believe, he should have no need of coercing Osun civil servants to get their voters.

"We call on every civil servants in Osun State to reject any attempt to manipulate them into surrendering their rights of choice in the forthcoming election.”

The organisation also called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to resist any plot or attempt to reign in rogue officers who are hand-in-cap with the Osun APC which intend to rig the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

Replying, the APC Campaign Council for the Osun 2022 gubernatorial election described as laughable and unfounded, the claim by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Ademola Adeleke that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola was asking civil servants in the State to surrender their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.

In a statement signed by the Director-General of the Campaign Council, Senator Ajibola Basiru, it maintained that the PDP was now running from pillar to post because defeat is already staring it in the face.

While noting that the Adeleke Campaign Council has consistently chosen the path of falsehood and misinformation as a campaign method and strategy, Basiru added that it is an indication that the PDP in Osun is down and it should stay down.

"The PDP should accept its misfortune and stop making things worse for itself by polluting the political space with falsehood and propaganda.

"Of course, we sympathise with the PDP's desperation and lack of campaign prowess and materials.

"We feel their pain because nobody, no union, no group has found their candidate, Ademola Adeleke, good enough to adopt or support.

"They know they are a disappearing act. It is pathetic when a drowning man comes on air and spew out only misinformation.

"For the avoidance of doubt, it is worth repeating that Governor Oyetola did not, and will not ask civil servants to submit their PVCs under any guise.

"The Osun civil servants are in a good place and they know it. They also know that the PDP's ship is at best a floundering and about-to-sink one.

"The PDP tried to use pensioners to blackmail the State government; it fell flat on their faces.

"This too, has failed. We therefore implore Mr Adeleke's Campaign Council to stay down, hide its ignorance and prepare to attend the inauguration ceremony of Oyetola for second term," the statement said.
