Osun Election: IGP Approves Deployment Of 21,000 Personnel

In furtherance of preparations for the Osun state gubernatorial election on Saturday, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has approved the deployment of 21,000 personnel to ensure peaceful conduct of the election.

This was disclosed by the IGP while meeting with stakeholders in Osogbo.

IGP Baba said the police has concluded mapping of the 332 wards in the state to deploy its personnel.

"All three senatorial districts, 332 wards and polling units have been appropriately mapped out and put for the deployment of adequate personnel who will be on the ground to maintain peace and order before, during and after the election," he said.

He further reiterated commitment towards ensuring a peaceful election while warning anyone with the aim of causing crisis during the conduct.

He said the police while carrying out their constitutional duties will not mind the socio-political status of anyone trying to disrupt the peaceful conduct.

Revealing the details of the deployment, he said, “We shall be deploying a total of 21,000 police personnel for the exercise of the Osun election as part of the election security plan."

The IGP further urged residents to maintain law and order while the police remain resolute to providing security and not intimidate them.

He further described the deployment as "a strong warning that government is determined to protect the citizens."
