Adeleke Muniru Bamidele has been endorsed as the Chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming local government election in Osun State.
The endorsement as the Chairmanship candidate for Irepodun South local council development area was made by the elders and stakeholders of the APC on Sunday
The elders caucus however affirmed the protesters who staged a protest against the fourth term ambition of the incumbent Chairman of the council, Ooyede Kamalideen Adekunle on Thursday September 8, 2022, as the bonafide and authentic members of APC in the council.
Some members of the party had on Thursday thronged the streets of the town to protest against alleged plans by some people in the state to impose Adekunle on them.
The protesters claimed Adekunle had been ruling the council since its creation about seven years ago.
Also, some members of the party executives who came out the following day to disown the protesters describing the streets demonstration as premature, misleading and self-serving.
At a meeting held at the party Secretariat on Sunday, the elders and stakeholders caucus of the party said they were aware of the protest and consequently affirmed the protest just as they unanimously threw their weight behind the aspiration of Adeleke Muniru Bamidele as the only aspirant pushed forward by them.
Reading the communique jointly signed by 22 members of the caucus, the former party Chairman and member of the elders caucus, Tajudeen Adegoke, explained that the elders of the party after receiving directives from the party leadership in the state announced to all party members who had interest to vie for the Chairmanship position to formally write the party.
Adekoge said only ten persons showed interest out of which Adeleke Muniru Bamidele was selected and agreed upon to run for the position.
He added that Adekunle did not show any interest to contest by then.
