Osun Local Government Election To Hold On October 15

Osun Local Government Election To Hold On October 15

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has set the date for the conduct of the local government elections in the state as Saturday, October 15, 2022.

Chairman of the Commission, Segun Oladuntan made this known at a press conference on Monday in Osogbo, the state capital.

Oladuntan said the Commission is now operating the newly passed and assented Osun State Electoral Act, 2022 which was passed by the Osun State House of Assembly.

He also added that the Commission to show transparency has always held pallies with political parties to brief them on the process.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had early last week warned the Commission and the outgoing All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Osun State against such a move.

The PDP described it as illegality that contravened the law.

While noting that the exercise conflicts with the provisions of the law, the Osun PDP had described the planned election as a futile effort, adding that it was an attempt to plunge the state into further financial mess.

The party also called for Oladuntan's arrest.
