Osun NYSC Harps On Strengthening Cultural Diversity

Osun NYSC Harps On Strengthening Cultural Diversity

Osun NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka

The Osun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Winifred Shokpeka, has charged corps members to always proudly showcase the beauty of the nation's diverse cultures for the world to see that strength lies in Nigeria's diversity.

Shokpeka also stated that as Nigerians, there is a need to learn to harness and celebrate the strength in the country's diversity in order to forge a healthy integration and oneness among all.

The State Coordinator who made this known during the flag-off of the Batch C Stream 1, Cultural Carnival at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ede on Saturday explained that Nigeria's unity would be cemented if citizens learned to accept and appreciate the cultural differences while seeking to identify the similarities that bound the people together.

According to her, "This is among the many reasons why the NYSC had incorporated the carnival into the orientation programme so that diverse cultures in the country can be displayed to the admiration and appreciation of all."

She revealed that the carnival was designed to showcase the beauty of Nigeria's richly blessed cultures and traditional heritage, which should be done amidst pomp and glamour.

"It is good we are rediscovering ourselves and the ideals behind the setting up of the corps 48 years ago.

"From then and even now, there is no better a time for Nigeria and Nigerians to really appreciate our cultures and traditions better than now.

"It is left door you the up and coming ones to preach this gospel of unity and strength and in doing so to employ the various social media outlets in propagating this."

She urged the corps members to imbibe the COVID-19 health protocols in all they do as they relax, have fun, and enjoy themselves.
