Osun Pensioners Embark On Peaceful Protest

The Osun State contributory pensioners are at the moment protesting in front of the Osun State Government Secretariat, Abere.

The contributory pensioners who had gathered in large crowds in front of the secretariat were complaining of government neglect and the inability of the state government to pay them their pensions.

This recent protest by the contributory pensioners in the state is coming after the state government announced on Tuesday, the release of N708 million for the payment of pension to retirees.

The breakdown of the payment indicated that the sum of N508 million was approved to pay pensions of retired civil servants under the Old Pension Scheme while the sum of N150 million was approved to pay selected retirees based on merit under the Contributory Pensions Scheme.

Also, the sum of N50 million will be used to offset part of the gratuity of retired officers under the Old Pensions Scheme.
