Osun United Beat FC Nilayo As NNL Second Round Begins

Osun United Beat FC Nilayo As NNL Second Round Begins

Osun United Football Club of Osogbo on Saturday defeated visiting FC Nilayo of Abeokuta 1-0 to record their first home win at the Osogbo Township Stadium.

The club, recently ordered to play their home matches in Ilorin by the Nigeria National League (NNL), resumed the competition’s second round with a home victory.

Osun United’s captain, Olalere Hakeem, secured victory for his team with his 70th minute goal, scored through a penalty kick.

This was after teammate Yomi Olaoke was brought down in the penalty box by an FC Nilayo defender.

There was, however, a little drama as the game was halted for about five minutes when FC Nilayo players protested the penalty kick decision by the referee.

They later accepted the decision and the penalty kick was taken, after deliberation with their team managers.

AllNews recalls that Osun United were sent to Ilorin, Kwara State in March for three of their home matches.

This was as a result of the breach of COVID-19 protocols by the club during their home game against Vandrezzer FC.

The punishment did affect the club’s performance, as Osun United dropped from second position on the log of NNL Group B1.

This was after they lost five consecutive games, including two of their home matches played in Ilorin.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), however, returned the club to Osogbo Township in April, after the club completed the three home matches punishment.

The NFF Committee equally directed the club to pay N300,000 for breaching COVID-19 protocols and N200,000 for not complying with an earlier NNL decision as at when directed.
