#OsunDecides2022: Security Report Ahead Of Saturday's Poll

Less than 24 hours to Osun 2022 gubernatorial election, security has been heightened in the state.

Security personnel, including men and officers of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force and the NSCDC operatives were observed at strategic spots across the state.

While some are seen in their vehicles roving Osogbo, the state capital, the adjourning communities and others were stationed at known black spots.

In a quick reaction, the Osogbo branch Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Kazeem Oyewale was arrested.

Oyewale, known as Asiri Eniba was arrested by a detachment of the Nigerian Army alongside some suspected political thugs at Ojurin motor park, Old Garage, Osogbo, around 12:45 pm on Friday.

Some residents of Osogbo who witnessed the arrest told the Osun Defender that Oyewale and the thugs were caught with two guns, cutlasses and Indian hemp.

The witnesses said soldiers fired several warning gunshots into the air when some other thugs wanted to attack them.

It was gathered that Oyewale who put on white native, had attempted to escape before he was cautioned by the soldiers.

One of the eyewitnesses said: “The soldiers came with a Hilux and one hummer bus. They went straight to where Asiri and his boys were.

"The soldiers took strategic position and surrounded the building where Asiri and his boys were.

“Some of them went inside and we were heating noise. They later matched out Asiri and like five of his boys. Two of the boys were with guns.

“When the soldiers were matching them into the bus, some thugs were throwing stones at the soldiers and that forced them to be shooting sporadically. The gunshots were much.”

Others stated that his arrest was also a ploy by the ruling party to reciprocate by arresting members of the opposition parties before election day on Saturday.

However, at the time of this report, information has it that Asiri Eniba and his gang have been released.

Also, reports of pockets of shooting at the Freedom Park in Osogbo can not be ascertained.

The Nigerian Police also embarked on a show of force throughout Osogbo as a means of a deterrent to would-be mischief makers.
