The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Adamawa State, Lami Ahmed, has said that rape and sexual assault cases recorded between the months of May and October 2020 in the state is over 350.
This was disclosed at the launch of SMARTRR, a technological solution that makes it possible for mobile phone users to report rape cases and gender-based violence in their community.
Ahmed commended Samuel Dirug, a youth in the state, for coming up with the innovation which allowed for the confidential reporting of over half of the rape cases.
According to the commissioner, not speaking out over sexual violence and rape is responsible for the continuous rise in the number of rape in the state.
She added that over 150 cases of rape have been reported and follow-ups had been made by concerned service providers.
