Some Twitter users have taken to their handles to berate Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church aka Winners chapel, over his failure to adhere to the government’s directives on religious gatherings.
Allnews reports that days ago, Lagos and Ogun state governments placed bans on social and religious gatherings in order to contain the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
Many religious gatherings were suspended on Sunday, in adherence to the directive, but Oyedepo held service at Canaanland, Ota, Ogun state.
This, however, did not go down well with many Nigerians, who bashed the cleric.
Below are some reactions gathered:
I am beginning to believe Oyedepo & Enenche stubbornly held services not because of tithes & offerings but just to show defiance to a government they have never hidden their dislike for.

I am not sorry to say this. Bishop Oyedepo is a fraud, a Con Man & an irresponsible Man. May God deliver all those that see him as their overseer. But if Gov’t let him & other Muslim wannabe clerics who have been flaunting Laws & telling their crowds #COVIDー19 is a lie continue.

The same Oyedepo whose anointing couldn't heal his wife,
she had to be flown abroad for proper treatment that lasted months is the one gathering thousands under the same roof to teach them what he doesn't know.
He's not my problem, my problem are the idiots sitted there. pic.twitter.com/y7NME84PO8— ALABI OPEYEMI OLADMEJI (@alabiopeyemiola) March 22, 2020

I'm not supporting Oyedepo for holding a massive service, but y "ll are dragging him for holding a massive service, but you can't drag people holding weddings, parties and clubs. Smh

Many people thinks calling on men of God like Bishop Oyedepo is an attack on the church.

You are wrong, I am a Christian & a practicing one at that. I can never attack the Church of Christ.
But the Bible we all read recommended staying at home when there's a ravaging plague
I believe in the power of prayer and faith in God but there is a place and time for everything. Bishop Oyedepo didn't keep his wife in church when she was very ill, he flew her abroad for a lengthy treatment but now he is encouraging his members to ignore health warnings...

Oyedepo's wife was critically sick. His anointing oil and power couldn't heal his sick wife but instead, he took her to a well equipped and modernized hospital abroad for treatment.
Today, he's shouting that #COVIDー19 can't harm you and some foolish members are shouting "AMEN".— Bayelsa Twytter Lord (@erefitei) March 22, 2020
