A 50-year-old man, Rafiu Ayantayo, who stood as surety for his son, Biodun, was on Thursday docked in an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court, Ibadan, for allegedly failing to produce his son for trial.

Ayantayo was accused by the police of tampering with the legal system and Biodun was accused by the police of stealing and breaking into houses.

Earlier, Rafiu did produce his son in court on March 26, as promised, according to the Prosecutor, Insp. Toyin Ibrahim, who told the court.

According to Ibrahim, Rafiu broke Section 126(1) of the Oyo State, 2000 Criminal Laws by committing an infraction. However, the defendant entered a not-guilty plea to the accusation.

The Magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, allowed him to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in the same amount. Ayofe ruled that one of the sureties must have a blood link to the defendant. She adjourned the matter until June 4 for a hearing.

Meanwhile, two individuals, Abiodun Abdulahi, 23, and Kazeem Sodiq, aged 31, appeared before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Ibadan on Tuesday over alleged N150,000 stealing.

The accused, whose residential addresses were not disclosed, faced charges of conspiracy and theft. Despite the accusations, both defendants pleaded not guilty.

According to the Prosecutor, Philip Amusan, the alleged incident occurred on March 12 in the Oke-Ado area of Ibadan.

Amusan alleged that Abdulahi stole the Infinix phone belonging to one Oluwasola Adebowale.

He alleged that Sodiq on the same date and in the aforementioned area received the stolen phone from Abdulahi, knowing it was stolen.

He said the offences contravened provisions of Sections 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The court’s president, Moji Aworemi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250,000 and one surety each in like sum. She adjourned the case until April 23 for a hearing.
