Oyo Tertiary Workers Commend Makinde For Improved Welfare

Gov. Seyi Makinde

Workers at six state-owned tertiary institutions in Oyo State, under the umbrella of the Joint Action Committee (JAC), have commended Governor Seyi Makinde for improved welfare in the last 44 months.

The workers commended the Governor during an appreciation visit to him in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The JAC comprises workers from the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo; The Polytechnic, Ibadan; The Oke- Ogun Polytechnic, Saki; the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa; College of Education, Lanlate and the Oyo State College of Agricultural Technology, Igboora.

Speaking on behalf of the members of staff, JAC Chairman Segun Oyewumi, said, “the entire staff of the Oyo-owned institutions have come to the Secretariat to appreciate Makinde for his unprecedented impact on the education sector.”

Oyewunmi who described the Governor as a great governor and the face of good governance in the country said the improvement of the tertiary education sector has been outstanding under him.

He appreciated Makinde for reforming the subventions

“to tertiary institutions to 100 per cent from the 25 per cent left by the immediate past administration.

“The payment of N6.8 billion out of the N8.4 billion debt owed by the previous administration and the approval of an N106 million sustainability support fund, which has enabled tertiary institutions workers to get their full salaries in the last few months, among others.”

Reacting, Makinde promised to improve the welfare of members of the state, maintaining that a government that does not do this is not worthy of being called one.

He noted that the Oyo State Government would address the issue of casual staff after determining the financial implications and the vacancies in institutions, among other factors.

Makinde also said the government would support the institutions in the accreditation of courses.

“I want to appreciate you because you have given us that conducive atmosphere. If there had been an atmosphere of unrest, we would not be able to do well,” the Governor said.
