Participate In Nation Building, Adeleke Urges NYSC Members

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to involve in nation building.

Adeleke also told the youth corps members to eschew bitterness and rancour, twin emotions capable of incapacitating and limiting them from achieving optimally in life.

The governor gave the charge to Batch A Stream II corps members during the terminal parade/official closing ceremony of the orientation course at the permanent orientation camp, Ede on Tuesday.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Teslim Igbalaye, Adeleke assured the corps members that the government is very passionate about the scheme.

While calling on the corps members to embrace hard work, he urged them to discard he get rich quick syndrome, he added that the government alone cannot do it as it needed input from the corps members to move in the right direction.

"I want to assure you that the Government is very passionate about you and that is why it keeps coming up with programmes and initiatives to help you actualize your dreams and harness fully the potentials that are deeply rooted in you as graduate youths.

"But the Government alone cannot do this; it needs input from you to help her move in the right direction. I want you therefore to embrace every initiative of the government geared towards providing an enabling environment for you to thrive and bloom.

"Eject the 'get rich quick' syndrome and rather work hard and diligently towards becoming someone you, your family, society and the younger generation can be proud of.

The Osun governor admonished the corps members to relate well with their host communities and ensure to step down the skills they have acquired in camp to the youths and adolescents in the communities.

According to him, this will help them to develop a positive mindset and self esteem needed to keep them off the streets and gainfully employed.

He congratulated the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Y. D. Ahmed on the scheme's golden jubilee and implored all stakeholders and corps employers to continue to show love and hospitality to the corps members.

Earlier in his address, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Agbor Ndoma Obim urged the corps members to focus more on what they can give to better the lives of the people of their host communities.

Agbor also advised them to discharge their duties at their places of primary assignment with a sense of duty and be committed to the ethics of the organisation they are posted to.

The Osun NYSC boss also urged the corps members to be disciplined, resilient and committed to the project of nation building.
