Party Crisis: PDP Governors Set to Hold Emergency Meeting

The governors of Nigeria's major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold an emergency meeting soon.

The governors are expected to discuss the party's problems following the resignation of its top national officials.

The governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal made the announcement in a statement.

He stated that the governors had arranged an emergency meeting, but did not specify a date or venue for the meeting.

"Therefore, the PDP governors' association has organized an emergency meeting to discuss the party's problems and find a solution," read the statement. 

AllNews gathered that Seven of the party's deputy leaders had stepped down in protest of what they call "lack of good governance".

Confirming the incident, the party’s National Organising Secretary, Austin Akobundu, announced to journalists on Tuesday.

The Officials had accused the city administration of mismanagement and non-disclosure of expenditures.

They said they would continue to obey the PDP but would not work with the National Working Committee (NWC).

Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have resigned from their positions.

The officials who resigned through separate letters to Umar Tsauri, the National Secretary of the party, are the Deputy National Financial Secretary, Gerald Irona; Deputy National Legal Adviser, Ahmed Liman; Deputy National Organising Secretary, Hassan Yakubu; Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Diran Odeyemi; and the Deputy National Woman Leader, Hadizat Umoru among others
