Aspirants under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State protested at the party's secretariat on Wednesday over the alleged failure to issue them nomination forms.
Daily Post reports that the aspirants (mainly those for the State House of Assembly seats) were at the aforementioned secretariat with their receipts of payment for the party's nomination forms.
Isreal Agbasi, one of the protesters, disclosed to the news outlet that they were told to pick up their nomination forms at the PDP state secretariat after paying at the national party office in Abuja.
According to him, they were surprised that those responsible for the issuance of the nomination forms were "nowhere to be found".
Speaking further, he stated that they were not aware of any consensus candidate for any elective position.
The aggrieved aspirants said the action of the party's state executive was an act "against the democratic principles", threatening to take the necessary legal action to ensure that their rights were not trampled upon.
Responding to the protesters' claims, Joy Oyaghiri Fagbemi, who claimed to be a speaker for the office responsible for the issuance of the forms, said that only those who made payments for the nomination forms at the Prot Harcourt office are given forms.
Fagbemi stated that the process may have been misunderstood by the aspirants.
