PDP Urges Buhari To Reduce Fuel Price To N90

PDP Urges Buhari To Reduce Fuel Price To N90

Major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to reduce the pump price to N90 per litre from N125.

Earlier in the month, Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Silva, had announced the plan of the Federal Government to reduce the price of petrol from N145 to N125 per litre.

In reponse to that, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP,  Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, said that the plan was not as good as expected.

Ologbondiyan stated that with the current price of crude oil in the global market, which sits at $30 per barrel, the price of fuel in the country should drop to N90 and N90 per litre.

He said that this move will lessen the burden on the citizens who are also hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

He stated, “Our party maintains that any further delay in the reduction of fuel price amounts to fleecing of Nigerians at a time government should rather concentrate on efforts that will immediately ease the burden and enable our citizens to battle health and economic concerns worsened by the coronavirus disease.

“The party therefore urged agencies of government, particularly the Central Bank of Nigeria, to be wary of attempts by some All Progressives Congress leaders to hijack fiscal procedures and push hazy financial theories that will end up diverting public resources into their hands, away from the poor Nigerians in the informal sector who are in dire need of social remedies due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
