Peru President Apologises For Protest Death Toll, Says She W

Peru President Dina Boluarte has apologised for the protest death toll in the country but insisted she will not step down.

Boluarte said in an address; “Some voices that have come from the violent and radical factions are asking for my resignation, provoking the population into chaos, disorder and destruction.

“I will not resign. My commitment is with Peru.

“I cannot stop reiterating my regret for the deaths of Peruvians in these protests. I apologise for this situation.”

Protests have gripped the country since ex President Pedro Castillo was removed from office in December for wanting to illegally dissolve Congress.

He was replaced by Boluarte, who was vice president.

Supporters of the former president have now been demanding that new elections be held and for Boluarte to step down.
