Manchester City defeated Brentford City side 3-1 at the GTECH Community Stadium in Brentford City as action returned in the Premier League on Monday night.

Pep Guardiola's men needed to win to get close to their rivals Liverpool and Arsenal on the Premier League table and they did that in style with Phil Foden inspiring the win for the Citizens.

Brentford took the lead thanks to a goal from Neal Maupay in the 21st minute of the match. Mark Flekken assisted the opening goal of the game.

However, the visiting Manchester City side rallied around to get a goal for themselves in the contest.

They were rewarded with an equalizer as Phil Foden scored at the stroke of half-time (45+3 minutes) to level up things for his side.

It finished 1-1 at the break. After the intermission, the Citizens took the lead thanks to a goal from English youngster Phil Foden.

Foden completed his brace to make it 2-1 thanks to an assist from playmaker Kevin De Bruyne in the 53rd minute of the contest.

The Manchester City side continued to dominate the game and they scored the third goal thanks to a 70th minute goal from Phil Foden.

He was able to net City's third goal and his hat-trick following an assist from star forward Erling Braut Haaland. It ended 3-1 in favour of the title-chasing Manchester City side.
