Amidst wide protest against the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), some youths in Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara have rallied in support of the controversial unit in the Nigeria Police Force.
AllNews reports that top personalities and other citizens in the country have over time called for an end to the anti-robbery squad, as a result of the incessant killing of youths.
After several allegations which include extortion and killings, many Nigerians are demanding a total ban of their operation, after previous efforts by the government to reform and reorganize the unit.
Nationwide protests across major cities in Nigeria were a culmination of weeks of anger and outcry online by the country's young people over claims of harassment and extortion by SARS.
However, some youths in Northwestern states are seen carrying placards with inscriptions supporting the reforming of SARS.
Some of the inscriptions read "Bring SARS to an end means more Kidnapping, robbery, Yahoo. Are you ready for all of these?" Police are always there to keep our society safe," "Don't scrap SARS, reform it."
