Plateau: FG shares relief materials to 2023 flood victims

The Federal Government has commenced the distribution of relief materials to victims of the 2023 flood in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The distribution of the relief materials was led by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), North Central Zone on Wednesday.

The support followed a joint assessment by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), NEMA, and other stakeholders in the state.

The affected communities included Ungwar Rukuba, Rikos and Gada Biyu communities in the LGA.

Eugene Nyelong, the North Central Zonal Coordinator commiserated with the affected persons and assured them of continuous support in times of disaster.

As contained in a statement by the agency on Thursday, the coordinator said "NEMA and SEMA will consistently consider the plight of persons affected by various disasters across Nigeria and in this case Jos North Local Government Area."

The items distributed were food and non-food items, including bags of rice, groundnut oil, cooking stoves, and pots among others.

The zonal coordinator further stated: "Disaster management is everyone's business and requires a community effort to be properly managed and in that light, preparation should begin to prevent subsequent flooding by not building on waterways, clearing refuse dumps and adhering to proper building codes."
