PM Quarantines After Contacts Test Positive

Prime Minister of Uganda, Ruhakana Rugunda, has gone into self-quarantine after some contacts of his tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Disclosing the news on Friday, on Twitter, he tweeted, “Friends, I have gone into self-isolation after some of my contacts tested positive for COVID-19.

“My own test result is negative, however, I have taken this decision as health recommended measure.”

Ruhakana serves as the Chairman of the Ugandan Task Force on COVID-19.

The news comes after the country's health ministry said that all cabinet ministers would take a COVID-19 test.

Speaking with Xinhua over the phone, the spokesperson of the country's health ministry, Emmanuel Ainebyoona, said that the test will be conducted routinely.

Emmanuel said, “We started testing all the ministers today (Friday) because they move from place to place and meet different people.

“We want to ensure they are safe and that is why we shall repeat the tests routinely.”

Adding that, “The same team also advised us to test the ministry of health staff as well as journalists who are covering the COVID-19 activities and other workers at the Office of the Prime Minister."
