Police Apprehend Seven People For Planting Indian Hemp In Ogun State

Seven people have been arrested in the state for planting Indian hemp on a large expanse of land says Ogun State Police Command.

The police were informed that the suspects had cultivated the land for planting Indian hemp at Lokuta village, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun.

In a statement by the Command's Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the land was discovered on April 2 and seven suspects that were later apprehended by the police were on the land, planting seeds.

Oyeyemi listed the suspects as Nelson Enu, Samuel Paul, Patrick Emmanuel, Ekioya Joe, Endurance Eliobe, Monday Okoro and Stanley Ogejiagba, saying they were all arrested following credible intelligence gathered by policemen at Isara division.

The statement reads, “The intelligence further revealed that the suspects were threatening the lives of the villagers who did not initially know what they wanted to use the cultivated land for, for daring to disturb them while the planting was going on."

The PPRO hinted that five bags of suspected Indian hemp seeds were recovered from the suspects, stating that two bags of the seeds had already been planted.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to state CIID, Eleweran Abeokuta, for onward transfer to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
