The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old suspected kidnapper, Mohammed Igbira.
The suspect was previously jailed in Jos, Plateau State, over his nefarious activities, but escaped to Nasarawa State, where he started terrorising residents.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ramhan Nansel, while speaking to our correspondent in Lafia, said Igbira disturbed the peace of residents of Akwanga and Wamba local government areas of the state.
“The Police received information that a suspected member of a kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate operating between Akwanga and Wamba Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State was sighted at Wamba metropolis.
“Upon receipt of the information, police operatives attached to the Wamba division swiftly swung into action and got the suspect arrested.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspect was a kidnapper that was arrested and sent to prison in Jos, Plateau State, but he escaped from lawful custody when the correctional facility was attacked on November 30, 2021.
“Consequently, the Nigeria Correctional Service, Jos, Plateau State, came to identify the suspect and the Nasarawa State Police Command handed him over to them for further investigation,” he said.
