Police arrest Ogun man for assault on minors

A 42-year-old man named Jamiu Ayobolu, accused of allegedly defiling four minors has been apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command.

Ayobolu was arrested in the Ilupeju area of Ifo local government area of the state.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Sunday, Ayobolu was arrested last Thursday.

Earlier, a senior police officer in the Ifo Police Division who has knowledge of the incident but chose not to be named because he was not authorised to speak for the command said the case had already been transferred to the command headquarters following inquiries on how the suspect was able to defile the four minors.

“The case is no longer with us. Such cases are not handled by our division. Our place is just a point of contact in the reporting stage. After the reporting, the case is then transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for anti-human trafficking through the Public Relations Officer.”

When contacted, one of the victims’ mothers, identified simply as Sola, declined to shed light on how the suspect was able to assault the three minors.

She said the police had assured them of getting justice and hence there was no need to speak.

“Please don’t bother. We have reported it to the police station, where they told us not to say anything,” Shola told our correspondent on Saturday.

It was learnt that the spokesperson for the command, Odutola, and the mothers brought the children to the station on Friday and reported how the suspect had been having carnal knowledge of the minors.

She said, “The oldest of the children is 11 years old, while the youngest is seven years old. The mothers said the man had been having carnal knowledge of the minors. And immediately after it was reported, our men swung into action. The man is currently in our custody. The investigation is ongoing.”
