About 100 thugs attempted to attack the protesting labor unionists as the thugs tried to invade the secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), when the workers were gathering for the third-day protest on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.

The thugs with dangerous weapons were reported to have stormed the NLC secretariat around 7am.

Earlier, there was a rumor that the residents of the state were warned to tread with caution as trucks loaded with thugs were seen on their way heading into Kaduna metropolis from the Kawo axis.

The spokesperson of Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Muhammad Jaliga, confirmed that there was an attempt by some hoodlums to launch an attack on peaceful protesters, but the security operatives guarding the premises repelled the attack and made some arrest.

“We have been able to arrest some of them and investigation is ongoing to that effect,” Jaliga said.

In relation, an anti-labor protest was staged within the Kaduna state metropolis, countering the allegations of the NLC against the state government.

The protest was held at NEPA Roundabout, the same spot where the NLC gathered its members for a protest on Wednesday. The anti-NLC protesters consisted of women, youth, children, who carried a placard with inscriptions against the ongoing NLC strike.

The protesters alleged that the striking union has put the residents in the state in a total blackout.
