The Nigeria Police Bill, 2020, has been signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
This was disclosed through the president's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a memo.
According to the memo, the Act "repeals the Police Act Cap. P19. Laws of the Federation, 2004."
It would serve to make the Police Force more "effective and well organised", as the Force will be charged with the "transparency and accountability" in the discharging of its duties.

“The Act repeals the Police Act Cap. P19. Laws of the Federation, 2004, and provides for a more effective and well organized Police Force, driven by the principles of transparency and accountability in its operations and management of its resources," the statement stated.
The Act also creates a channel that would make funding available for the Force as is available for other establishments of the Federal Government.
Professionalism, training programmes, and better cooperation between the Force and members of communities across the country will be improved through this Act to fight the persistent issue of crime.
