Police Brutality: Colombian Police Responsible For 2020 Protest Deaths

11 of the 14 deaths that happened in the protest have been attributed to the Colombian Police after being held responsible for the protest massacre that happened last year.

The United Nations (UN) has found out about the claims in a 182-page report published on Monday. The Colombian police were responsible for the deaths during the anti-police brutality protests.

The report which was funded by the UN Development Programme, stated that out of the 14 people killed in connection with the protests, 11 died as a result of actions by the police.

The reports also claimed the violence went out of control because the officers were unprepared to handle large crowds of protesters and were not given orders to refrain from using firearms.

The countrywide protests started when a 44-year-old driver Javier Ordonez died. A viral video showed Ordonez on the ground while being repeatedly tasered by the police as he screamed for help. He died that night from injuries.

According to the reports, 75 people were injured by firearms during the protests as police officers were also filmed destroying private property.

Four police officers have so far been charged with murder for the deaths that occurred during the protests, however, there are still no convictions, and none of the officers charged with murder is in prison.
