Police detain Rivers monarch following threat to life of ret

His Royal Highness, Eze Cyprian Amadi-Worenwu, the Eze Risi Ohia-Emeri Abali of Rebisi, has been taken into custody by detectives from the Rivers State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, on suspicion of posing a danger to the lives of retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli and his relatives.

Following Enebeli's decision against Eze Amadi-Worenwu on March 28, 2023, in a dispute regarding traditional chieftaincy, the latter is now accused of threatening the former's life.

Enebeli, a retired judge, filed a petition with the Commissioner of Police, alleging that Eze Amadi-Worenwu, offended by the ruling, threatened to murder him, his kids, and his employees rather than using his constitutional right to appeal the decision.

Retired Justice Enebeli called on the police to step in immediately before Eze Amadi-Worenwu carried out his threats in the petition.

The accused allegedly refused to accept the police invites, but authorities ultimately caught up with him.

Eze Amadi-Worenwu is being held at the State CID, where he is being investigated. He could also be charged in court.

Meanwhile, a socio-cultural group, the Wuse Youth Development Association, WYDA, has linked the traditional ruler of Akiri, Akun Khe, in Awe local government area in Nasarawa state, of masterminding the gruesome murder of its members, Idris Muhammed Dangana and Muhammed Isa Dan’Adda, over a land dispute on April 29, 2024.

The group claimed at a press conference on Thursday in Wuse, Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, demanding for thorough investigation, arrest and prosecution of culprits of the heinous crime.

They alleged that the Akun Khe had earlier accepted the responsibility of sending these suspects to patrol the area in dispute with guns and machetes, intended to terrorize and intimidate our law-abiding citizens.

“So when our farmers (members) were finally attacked and killed, it didn’t come to us as a surprise,” they stated.

WYDA also demands for the immediate removal and replacement of Adamu Muhammed Sadiq, the Overseer of Azara Development Area over alleged unguarded utterances and actions that had further worsened the relationship between the two communities.

They also frowned at “the way and manner the case is being treated”, noting that it suggests a lack of respect for human lives, total neglect and disrespect to members of the Wuse Community.

"The question that keeps lingering in our mind, is the false claim by the people of Akiri that Wuse Community has no land of its own at all. How can Wuse which had once served as the capital of the defunct Awe District during the Kwararafa period and a temporary capital of the Kwararafa Kingdom be said not to have a land under its jurisdiction?

"This claim is being circulated by those who are not properly educated, especially in the historical development of awe LGA.

"Those who care to know can look for the details in the under-listed publications: 30th anniversary of the late Emir of Awe, Abubakar Umar II, Booklet; Lowland Salt Industry by Elizabeth Isichi; The Suddaness Kingdom by C.K Meek 1929; and Awe Intelligent Report, et al, for ease of reference", their statement read in part.
