Police Detains PDP Chieftain Over Alleged Killing Of PDP Sta

The Police in Oyo State have arrested and detained a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, reports say.

It was gathered on Thursday that the party chieftain in Ibarapa geopolitical zone, Pa Olawure, was arrested in connection with the killing of another party stalwart, Dr. Fatai Aborode.

Aborode was killed in December on his way from his farm in Iganga, a town in Ibarapa North Local Government of the State.

The police had confirmed the killing of Aborode. It was gathered that Aborode came to settle in his hometown and establish a commercial farm after spending some years outside Nigeria, his death was said to have gathered several reactions.

It was also learnt that the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, said that the killing of Aborode was political as against the believe in some quarters that the politician was killed by some suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The governor spoke in February at a Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) live programme. Adding that his interaction with the father of the deceased revealed that it was not Fulani herdsmen that killed the deceased, and that the killing was political.

However, the State Police Command arrested one of the chieftains of the party, Owawure, in connection to the murder of the party stalwarts.

It was gathered that Owawure was arrested and detained at the former SARS office located in Dugbe, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

It was also gathered that some of the PDP Chieftains from Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Local Government Area, among whom are Alhaji Yisau, a former caretaker Chairman, Iliasu Ololade and Mr Obey from Igboora were at the former SARS office to see the party chieftain who was still in police custody as at Thursday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPPRO), Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the arrest of the PDP Chieftain.

Fadeyi said a PDP Chieftain was arrested and has been charged to court. He further said that the suspect is still in police custody.
