Police Dismiss Officer Samuel Philips For Killing Teenager I

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed an officer, Samuel Philips for shooting dead a teenager, Monsurat Ojuade, in the Ijeshatedo axis of Surulere Local Government, Lagos State.

AllNews Nigeria reports that the police force dismissed the officer after an internal investigation conducted indicated that Samuel Philipps’ actions were responsible for the teenager’s death.

Aside from that, the Command has concluded plans to arraign the indicted officer before a court on Friday (today) in the state as part of the effort to ensure that the family of the deceased 18-year-old girl gets justice.

The dismissal comes two weeks after the law enforcement officer allegedly killed the varsity education seeker while trying to effect an arrest of a robbery suspect within the teenager’s community.

Announcing the dismissal, the Lagos Command spokesperson, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said that Philipps, during the investigations, was tried for shooting and that at the conclusion of the findings, it was discovered that the law enforcement officer could not be exonerated from the crime.

Ajisebutu added that the dismissal and prosecution of Philipps were done in fulfilment of promises made by Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, Hakeem Odumosu, during his condolence visit to the deceased girl’s family.

The spokesman, through a statement made available to AllNews Nigeria, stated that Odumosu had promised the family that the case would be properly investigated and that justice would be served in accordance with the law.

The statement reads in part: “The Commissioner of Police further sympathizes with the bereaved family, and reiterates his earlier promise that justice would be done in this case”.
