Cape Town police arrested three alleged hijackers following an exchange of fire in the Zandvlei area in Muizenberg on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swaartbooi, officers of the SAPS Dog Unit, with the assistance of the Maitland Flying Squad, discovered a stolen vehicle travelling on Main Road in Muizenberg.

“A high-speed chase ensued through the streets of Muizenberg, which ended when the stolen motor vehicle collided with the boundary fence of a residence in Promenade Road," Swaartbooi said.

Swaartbooi went on to say that the three occupants of the vehicle tried to run but were apprehended by SAPS officers.

“It was determined that the vehicle had been stolen earlier today (Wednesday), during a housebreaking in Table View.”

Swaartbooi went on to say that the three suspects who were injured during the arrest were taken into custody by Muizenberg SAPS.

The three are Westlake residents aging 23, 30, and 34, respectively.
