Police Intercepts Bomb-Making Materials In Kano

Bomb making materials intercepted in Kano

The Nigerian Police, Kano Command has revealed that it has intercepted a car loaded with bomb-making devices and two AK47 rifles in the state.

A statement by the spokesman for the command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the crackdown followed intelligence report on the vehicle.

“On the 19/05/2022, following an intelligence report that a Mercedes Benz Motor Vehicle, ash in color with suspected sophisticated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) is coming from Jigawa State to Kano State.

"The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, immediately raised a crack team comprising Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological Radiological and Nuclear Defence (EOD-CBRN) and Operation Puff Adder.

"He said after a chase of the reported vehiicle on the same date, the suspects abandoned the vehicle at Bubbugaje Quarters Kumbotso local government area of the state, adding that technical search conducted by the team revealed that the vehicle was fully loaded with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) materials.

“Two (2) AK-47 rifles, four (4) AK-47 magazines, one thousand and ninety-eight (1,098) live ammunition, and two (2) pistol magazines were also recovered.

"An investigation has commenced,” the police statement said.

This is coming after what seems to be a terror attack at Aba road, Sabon Gari of Fagge local government, according to a more detailed police report.

According to the statement, the state's commissioner of police, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko thanked people of the state, the state government, sister security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Civil Liberty Organisations (CLOs) and Community Policing Stakeholders for their prayers, encouragement, continuous support and cooperation.  

He urged residents to continue being vigilant and report any suspicious person(s), item(s), movement or incidences to the nearest Police Station, and not take laws into their hands.

The commissioner also promised that round-the-clock visibility patrol and raids of criminal hideouts and black spots will continue throughout the State, as the command will sustain the ongoing “Operation Puff Adder” that has been yielding positive results.
