Police Interrogate D'Banj Over Rape Allegation

An Assistant Commissioner of Police at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Garki in Abuja has quizzed Nigerian singer D’banj over rape allegations against him.

AllNews reports that his accuser, Seyitan, some weeks ago took to Twitter to disclose that D’banj raped her in December 2018.

He failed to react until Tuesday, June 16, when he filed a lawsuit and demanded that Seyitan pays the sum of N100m within 48 hours or risk legal action, after which he allegedly got her arrested and intimidated her to delete the tweets and promote his music effort.

However, a report by The Punch says the singer had been invited for questioning on two different occasions.

According to a police source, “D’Banj has been questioned twice at the FCID, Abuja. He was questioned last week and also this week. We will leave no stone unturned as we investigate the matter,” the source said.

Report says Seyitan was also invited by the police in Abuja for a written statement but said to have been unable to travel to the federal capital territory (FCT).

“Seyitan pleaded with us that she had no means of travelling down to Abuja. So, she has been given the option of reporting at the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi,” the source added.

This comes after the coalition of Public Interests Lawyers and Advocates (COPA) demanded the arrest of the singer.

Director, Human Rights and Gender, at COPA, Patrick Odey in a statement released on Wednesday also commended the intervention of the Inspector General of Police.

Odey also bemoaned the alleged process taken by D’banj, stating that he should be arrested for detaining his accuser.
