Police nab seven over alleged murder of Islamic cleric

The Zamfara State Police Command detained and paraded seven individuals in connection with the death of Sheikh Abubakar Hassan Mada.

Allnews.ng gathered that the Islamic cleric was slain in Zamfara State.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Dalijan, paraded the accused at the Command's headquarters in Gusau, the state capital.

Dalijan further revealed that police officers detained one Kabiru, who was one of the terrorists who burned a police car and assaulted the home of the previous Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.

“The police have also apprehended two suppliers of ammunition to terrorist kingpin, Bashari, who has been operating in the Shinkafi and Kaura Namoda areas of Zamfara State. The two suspects were identified as Anas-Ruwa Tukur and Tijjani Aliyu,” the CP added.

“Two suspects allegedly forged documents to claim 40 cows in Zamfara State.”

The police commissioner stated that the accused will be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction for potential prosecution.

Meanwhile, troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded another success in the fight against terrorism in the Northwest with the killing of a notorious terrorist leader, Junaidu Fasagora and his gang members.

The terrorists were targeted via aerial bombardment and ground troops battle in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to a statement by the Nigerian Army Headquarters on Wednesday, Fasagora and his gang members have perpetrated a series of kidnappings and other acts of terrorism in different states of the northwest region.

The army described the successful operation as a crucial victory against terrorism and insurgency.

The statement further restated the commitment of the Nigerian Army in its resolve to restore peace and stability to the region.

The statement partly reads: "Nigerian Army troops deployed in Zamfara State for Counterterrorism Counter insurgency operations in the North West Region have neutralised a notorious terrorist leader, Junaidu Fasagora and scores of his fighters after a ferocious Artillery bombardment and ground battle in Tsafe general area of Zamfara State.

"Junaidu Fasagora and his terrorist group have long been responsible for a series of kidnappings and other terrorist activities against the populace across several states in the North West. Their elimination marks a crucial victory in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.

"The successful operation is a clear assertion of the Nigerian Army's relentless pursuit of peace and stability in the region and other regions of the country. 

"Troops remain committed to sustaining the ongoing operations against terrorism, insurgency and sundry crimes to restore safety and security to troubled areas."
