While addressing newsmen at the command headquarters, Yola, the state capital, the commissioner of police, Olugbenga Adeyanju said the suspects were arrested across the state, for sexual assault against women and children.

14 of the rape suspects who are between the ages of 16 and 45, were said to have raped people in different incidents, while the remaining 5 were members of a nine-member syndicate that gang-raped a woman.

The oldest among them, Sani Muhammed, who is married with children, confessed to having raped a 7-year-old girl.

One of those paraded for rape-related cases is a 30-year-old woman, Zainab Jafaru, charged with ‘criminal conspiracy, rape and abatement’ for leading her friend to the alleged rapists, by deceiving her to accompany her to her boyfriend’s place.

While narrating the incident, the police commissioner said, “On the 12/062020, at 1000hrs, the fifth suspect, Zainab Jafaru, deceived 33-year-old victim who happened to be her friend to accompany her to Geiro, a certain place situated in a remote side of Jambutu, Yola North LGA, to see her boyfriend.
